 Good news!

After a day of the kind of hurdles put in place by the forces that want to be sure we still have our senses of humor, Eliot made it back to Sunnybrook where people kept stopping by the apartment to welcome him back with warmth and huge smiles. He's one tired buckaroo, looking forward to a night with no roommate and no beeping monitors, and breathing deeply in his own space. I'll go back for more time with him in the morning.

We both send love to you all. Thanks for the good wishes that have cheered him and are always the best medicine.

It's a beautiful spring day here in Maine and we have high hopes that Eliot will be out of rehab and home at Sunnybrook by Friday. A nurse from Sunnybrook will visit him at NERH on Thursday to see whether she concurs with their assessment that he is ready. We know he is eager!

NERH has been great - wonderful, caring staff, terrific therapies, and improved food over his last time there. We are all grateful.

Eliot has a telemedicine visit with his PCP in a couple of weeks to talk about adding a bone-strengthening med.

We send love to you all!

Hardly able to keep his eyes open today after a hard day in therapy, but still resilient in spirit, here's our guy in his fields forever t shirt - and he's doing so well that he may well be able to go back to Sunnybrook sooner than Friday! xoxo to all, Taffy

Weekend update

Dear All,

Just a note to let you know I had a wonderful visit with my dad yesterday. They are taking great care of him at NE Rehab. He is getting lots of physical therapy and not in much pain. His spirits are great. I read him a chapter from a satirical book about Harvard (in photo and thanks to Peter & Mary!). He was laughing and helping me pronounces things - very engaged.

He will likely be there for the rest of the week, returning to Sunnybrook on Friday. If you would like to send a card, which he loves probably best to send them there: 340 Bath Rd, Brunswick, ME 04011, USA

We continue to be so grateful for all your love and support!

April 18 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

Eliot fell backwards against his bedside table a few days ago and seemed to only have suffered some bruises and abrasions. But the pain gradually grew worse and last night Jesse took him to the ER where a CAT scan revealed five broken ribs and a small puncture in one lung. Eliot's high pain threshold has everyone in awe! He has been transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland which has the capacity to do a surgical intervention if the lung puncture worsens, but so far things look promising for healing.

I had a wonderful visit with him today. Because the hospital itself is full, he and a few others have been put in a disused converted ICU - a silver lining as he has his own space with a big window.

We will see how things go over the next few days and keep you posted. All of us, including Eliot, send love to all of you.
